2013 Subaru Legacy | Dynamic Digital Brochure
Love. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.
Working the corner office or simply chasing the corners.
There’s a sense of satisfaction in doing things differently than the rest. Like building a sedan that offers surefooted handling and refined smoothness. Invigorating performance with reassuring safety. And thoughtful innovation with long-lasting reliability. The balance of these virtues working together harmoniously in the Legacy is what delivers the confidence to relish every curve when you chase the things that matter most to you.

Full time. Full effect.
Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
It’s never about compromise when it comes to driver control. That’s why Legacy is equipped with Subaru Symmetrical AWD. It’s balanced side-to-side for stability. And it’s designed to efficiently route power directly to each wheel all the time to maximize your grip of the road.
Whether it’s snow, rain, or just some gravel on the road—slick conditions can surprise even the best planners. But Subaru Symmetrical AWD keeps more power routed to all four wheels versus some other systems that only react to slippage that has already occurred. So you’re always ready with exceptional traction and control.
With outstanding grip and an exceptionally balanced layout—thanks to its one-of-a-kind, almost perfectly symmetrical design—Subaru Symmetrical AWD helps maximize the connection, and improve the response that your Legacy has to the road.
When danger steps into your path, the safest route is to step right around it. The trademark traction, stability and control of Subaru Symmetrical AWD helps you stay safe by making your Legacy ready to react.
By continually grabbing for every bit of traction possible, and sending power to the wheels with best traction when slippage occurs, Subaru AWD helps give you the freedom to tackle rough or loose road surfaces with confidence.
Low Profile. Big difference.
Subaru Boxer Engine
The SUBARU BOXER® engine is remarkably different because it generates more than power. The pistons are laid flat in a horizontally opposed design, providing powerful, yet smooth acceleration. And better yet, a lower center of gravity for increased handling stability.
Discover the power of balance.
Subaru Boxer Engine
Balance is control. It’s poise and agility. It’s power in perfect proportion. Subaru puts performance in balance with an engine unlike any offered by our competitors. The SUBARU BOXER® engine features a low profile, symmetrical design that puts the weight of the engine lower and in line with the vehicle for better response and control.
Horizontally Opposed Design
The pistons move in 180-degree opposition to each other on a horizontal plane, so each naturally cancels out the vibration of the piston opposite it.
Step on the accelerator and the revs come on smooth without the extra engineering other engines require. It’s comfortable and controlled, with plenty of power when you need it.
The engine’s flat design is inherently rigid, and reduces the amount of vibration that “V” or inline engines–with more upright pistons–are subjected to during operation.
An engine subjected to less vibration lasts longer. It’s no wonder 96% of Subaru vehicles built in the last 10 years are still on the road today 1.
Lower Center of Gravity
The flatter profile and perfectly symmetrical design of the engine block, and the fact that it sits lower in the chassis, make the overall vehicle feel more balanced and nimble versus other designs.
Greater Handling Agility
The vehicle responds more quickly to changes in direction, which gives a feeling of tightness in turns. And it’s more likely to feel stable during maneuvers, giving you an increased feeling of being in control at all times.

Get more for less.
Whether it’s a weekend around town or a quick getaway, make your drive as efficient as it is fun. With the Lineartronic® CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) you can reduce the amount of money you spend on gas, making every journey longer and more enjoyable.
The CVT available in the Legacy 2.5i models is a chain-driven, zero maintenance unit that transforms the driving experience. Instead of the traditional shifting through each gear, the CVT winds up to optimal rpm and stays there. The CVT in the Legacy also features paddle shifters and 6-speed manual mode, so you can savor the classic joy of running through the gears as you carve your favorite ribbon of road.
The 2.5i offers a 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine that generates 170 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. That’s ample power for a confident drive. What’s more, when paired with Lineartronic® CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), you can get up to 31 miles to the gallon and achieve over 590 miles on a full tank.1 You’ll spend more time enjoying your getaways and less time filling up.
1 Available on 2.5i models only. EPA highway estimate. Actual mileage may vary.
Bringing power and control into balance.
Every part of the Legacy works together to deliver a powerful, balanced and sporty performance, complemented by a smooth and engaged driving experience. From its refined engines and transmissions to its finely re-tuned suspension, you’re definitely going to find that the Legacy is just as committed to the drive as you are.
Ample Power for Confident Driving.
A wealth of ultra-smooth power at the ready. That’s the hallmark of the 3.6-liter 6-cylinder—the largest SUBARU BOXER® engine available. It produces 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque, moving the Legacy 3.6R models with effortless confidence over the road. For smooth shifting to match the delivery of power, it’s paired with the 5-speed automatic transmission.
Driving is pure pleasure when a car is truly dialed in, which is why the Legacy comes equipped with quick-ratio steering. The quicker ratio is designed to make the Legacy more responsive to the driver, giving you sharp turn-in and smooth transitions for an even more enjoyable drive.
Ultra-Smooth and Always Ready.
For optimum performance, experience the 6-speed manual to take advantage of the engine’s output with a shifter that’s been engineered for more precise shifts. Or go for smoothness with control with the 5-speed automatic with manual mode, paddle shifters and downshift rev-matching. And if it’s a more efficient drive you seek, experience the newly refined Lineartronic® CVT with 6-speed manual mode and paddle shifters.
In Touch. In Control.
Suspension and Chassis
Combining years of rally racing experience and the demands of daily real-world driving, the Legacy 4-wheel independent suspension design maximizes the feel you have for the road. The double-wishbone rear suspension absorbs the worst of the bumps without unsettling the rigid chassis. And, complemented with MacPherson struts up front, it’s a tight, yet supple ride that always leaves you in touch and in control.
There’s more to a Subaru than meets the eye.
The most important thing a Subaru can do is protect the people in it. We’re always looking for better ways to do it, and now the Legacy is available with an innovative new driver-assist system that’s watching the road with you: EyeSight.™1 Like a second pair of eyes to help monitor the road ahead, it watches for potential danger, warns you when it sees potential danger, and can even apply brakes to help you avoid it.
1 EyeSight is a driver-assist system which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, and weather and road conditions. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations.
With the help of Pre-Collision Braking, should a driver ahead of you unexpectedly hit their brakes or cut you off, EyeSight™ will warn you, apply the brakes to help you slow your Legacy, and at lower speeds can even help you stop. Pre-Collision Braking is designed to provide automatic braking that either prevents a collision or reduces the severity of a frontal impact. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, and weather and road conditions. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations.
Pre-Collision Throttle Management
With the Pre-Collision Throttle Management feature, EyeSight™ will help minimize or assist you in avoiding impact with large objects in front of your Legacy by preventing acceleration, even when the accelerator is fully applied. It can also help to reduce impacts in situations when “Drive” is accidentally selected instead of “Reverse,” by cutting power if it sees an object in your path. The Pre-Collision Throttle Management System is designed to reduce acceleration and minimize the severity of certain frontal impact. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Traffic doesn’t always flow, but the EyeSight™ Adaptive Cruise Control feature can not only help keep your Legacy at a set speed, but also look ahead and help keep your speed automatically adjusted so that your Legacy maintains a safe distance from the car ahead of you. It even has the ability to bring your Legacy to a complete stop and then resume moving when traffic has begun moving again. Adaptive Cruise Control is designed to assist the driver and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations.
Lane Departure and Sway Warning
In the event that you accidentally drift your Legacy to the edge of your lane and begin to cross into another, the EyeSight™ Lane Departure and Sway Warning feature watches for clearly marked lane markers and delivers a chime to warn you. The Lane Departure and Sway Warning operates only when the lane markings are visible and its effectiveness depends on many factors. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations.
Connect your drive in real time.
The available clear, electroluminescent gauges make it easy to check your stats.
With over 100 cubic feet of passenger space, every Legacy passenger enjoys a roomy cabin with generous legroom in the back, plenty of hip room in the front, and spacious headroom all around.
The available 440-watt, 9-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system includes HD Radio™ and SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio.1 You can also stream your own tunes from your Bluetooth®-capable device or use the USB to plug in your iPod®2 for even more ways to immerse yourself in your music. Bluetooth®, which includes hands-free calling and streaming audio, and the USB connection are now standard on all Subaru models.
1 SiriusXM™ Satellite radio hardware standard as part of Harman Kardon audio system. Activation and required monthly subscription sold separately. Includes 4-month trial subscription. See your dealer. 2 For up-to-date information on newer iPod® compatibility, please visit www.subaru.com/ipod.

Cars That Last
Life is too important to slow down with a car you can’t rely on. That’s why we build each of our vehicles with the highest standards of manufacturing, with designs that are inherently tough, and with engineering that can keep you going—all with quality and consistency. This commitment is why 96% of all the vehicles we’ve built in the last 10 years are still on the road today.1 It’s also why Subaru vehicles keep their value so well. In fact, ALG gave Subaru their Residual Value Award as the best mainstream automotive brand for 2012—the third year in a row.

Text in graphic Zero Landfill
In 2004, Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA) became the first manufacturing facility in the U.S. to reach zero landfill status and be designated a wildlife habitat. And every Subaru plant continues to use green suppliers, reduce manufacturing wastes and cut CO2 emissions.
1 2013 Subaru Impreza and XV Crosstrek 2.0L, and Forester, Outback, Legacy 2.5L non-turbo models achieving a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) rating by the California Air Resources Board are available in all 50 states. Only those registered in California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont will be eligible for the 15 years/150,000 mile emission warranty. Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington vehicles are not covered under PZEV emissions control warranty. See your warranty maintenance booklet for additional information.
In 2003, Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. became the first automotive assembly plant to be designated as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. SIA’s 800+ acres serves as a home for a wide variety of animals, including: whitetail deer, rabbits, Canadian geese, mallard ducks, squirrels, beavers, coyotes, snapping turtles, frogs, red-tail hawks, the blue heron, and the bald eagle.
Partial Zero Emission
Because clear skies are just as important as clean landscapes, we’ve engineered our vehicles to impact the air quality as little as possible. As a result the Outback, Forester, Legacy, Impreza and XV Crosstrek models have all achieved Partial Zero Emission Vehicle—PZEV1—status, meaning they are among the cleanest and most fuel-efficient vehicles available in the U.S. based on smog and greenhouse gas (GHG) ratings and overall fuel economy. And we’ve done it without compromising performance and versatility.
We’ve spent decades building relationships with those who believe in building a cleaner and greener world as much as we do. That’s why we support organizations such as Leave No Trace, which promotes responsible recreation.
Awards are great. Thanks are better.
